At SQS, we’ve always believed that business should do more than deliver services — it should deliver positive impact. That’s why we’re proud to share that SQS is now officially a Certified B Corporation® (B Corp), making us the first inspection company in the energy sector to achieve this recognition, while joining a global community of businesses committed to balancing purpose with profit.

More Than a Logo

This milestone is about much more than a logo or certificate — it’s proof of accountability, transparency, and our commitment to continuous improvement. It reflects our dedication to People, Place, and Planet - embedded into everything we do. It also demonstrates our ethical leadership, respect for our people, and the value we create for clients worldwide. With a B Impact Score of 89%, SQS demonstrated particular strength in three areas:

  • Governance - strong ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability.

  • Workers - fair pay, respect, and long-term investment in our global team of inspectors.

  • Customers - delivering trusted services that protect supply chains and help clients move closer to Net Zero.

We spoke with our Managing Director, Lisa Roberts, to find out why she wanted SQS to pursue B Corp Certification and what it means for our clients and partners.

Q&A with Lisa Roberts, Managing Director of SQS

Q: Lisa, why did SQS decide to pursue B Corp certification?

Lisa: “For us, it wasn’t just about achieving recognition - it was about proving that the values we’ve lived by for decades are real and measurable. Collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to People, Place, and Planet have always shaped how SQS works. Achieving a score of 89% and excelling in governance, workers, and customers proves that we’re delivering on those values. Becoming a B Corp validates that and shows our clients, partners, and people that we’re serious about making business a force for good"

Q: What was the certification process like?

Lisa: "It was rigorous, as it should be. SQS was assessed across five areas — governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. That meant providing evidence on everything from how we treat our team at headquarters and globally, to how we reduce Scope 3 emissions and help clients meet their Net Zero targets. See the graphic below for the five B Corp impact areas that formed the basis of our assessment. We also legally embedded our commitment to balancing purpose with profit in our company articles. It’s a big shift, but the right one.”

Q: What does this mean for SQS clients, especially in energy and renewables?

Lisa: “It gives them added assurance. Our clients already know us for quality, consistency, and reliability — but B Corp certification proves we deliver those services with integrity and sustainability at the core. For businesses under pressure to meet ESG goals and demonstrate ethical supply chains, working with SQS as a B Corp means they can trust that their partner has been independently verified to B Lab’s high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.”

Q: How does this fit into SQS’s wider sustainability journey?

Lisa: “We’re already carbon neutral and committed to reaching Net Zero by 2030. Our innovations, like Remote AI Inspections, are reducing global travel emissions. And with our ESG service, Your Sustainability Journey, we help businesses cut their own carbon footprint through tailored strategies and live emissions tracking. B Corp certification is the next step in showing that SQS is not just talking about change – we’re delivering it.”

Looking Ahead

For SQS, becoming the first in our field to achieve B Corp certification is not the end of a process but the start of a new chapter — one where we continue to raise the bar for ourselves, our clients, and the wider energy sector, alongside a global community of B Corps using business as a force for good.

As Lisa sums it up: “This is just the beginning. B Corp is about continuous improvement, and it challenges us to keep building a business that works for People, Place, and Planet.”

The B Corp Declaration of Interdependence reflects the values that SQS shares with this global community — a commitment to use business as a force for good, creating benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
